Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Get out of the garage and support the Heavy Vehicle industry. Work with commercial operators in the transport sector to provide advice, knowledge and skills that drive safety and compliance.

This is a dynamic role where you will work closely with others in Regulatory Services group as well as across the organisation. As part of a joined-up team you will inspect, investigate and assist with auditing operators.

No two days will be the same as you will work in a number of ways whether it is in the office or in person on site. You'll work with a range of operators to achieve compliance through a range of activities from education to enforcement activities.

Because your role will comprise of a number of different activities, you will be working in a fast-paced environment. This will draw on your confidence, your ability to exude confidence and credibility along with your strong desire and motivation to work with others to achieve compliance and the best safety outcomes for New Zealanders.

This is a great role if you enjoy getting out and about so you must have a full clean drivers' licence and be comfortable traveling around the Central North Island region.

This role will draw on your significant Heavy Vehicle inspection skills, the ability to perform audits and work with others to implement a range of interventions to achieve regulatory outcomes.

You are a strong people person, able to have uncomfortable conversations while also focusing on the best levers to achieve regulatory compliance.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Solid experience inspecting heavy motor vehicles
  • Proven mechanical/workshop experience
  • A passion for reducing harm and improving safety standards
  • Experience of performing investigations and audits in order to find resolutions within regulatory guidelines
  • Excellent communication and written presentations skills
  • A positive attitude and an innovative approach to problem-solving
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand and apply legislation, policy, and technical standards in an operational context
  • High degree of confidence and ability using multiple IT systems
  • Working knowledge and understanding of COF is useful

Qualifications

  • NZ Certificate in Automotive Engineering L4 or 5, or an equivalent

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
